Chapter 30

This morning the sheriff of Maycomb, Heck Tate came by our house. He said how he doesn't think it was Jem who stabbed Bob. Jem had a broken arm already and couldn't have had enough strength to stab a grown man. We all got to thinking about it and realized it was Boo Radley! Arthur Radley saved me and Jem. It was a secret though because Arthur gets really shy when he gets attention.

So mocking birds are sweet little creatures. They are so innocent and make people happy just by the sound of them. Arthur Radley I think reminds me of a mocking bird, so innocent but damaged. If anyone tried to hurt Arthur i think it would be a sin because he is so nice and a mockingbird.

Chapter 28

So me and Jem were just walking home from the school play. I even had a role. I was "Ham," all I said was "PORK!' My costume was really annoying though. I can't really walk, it makes me all clumsy and I can barely see anything. I guess it makes me kind of vulnerable.

On our way home last night we were attacked!! It was so scary. I don't remember that much because it all happened so quick and it was pitch black outside. All i remember hearing is Jem screaming and hearing a snap. Bob had broke Jem's arm. Then Bob started strangling me, I thought I was going to die.   All of a sudden he got thrown off of me. I'm not sure who saved me but I think it was Jem. After I could get up and see what happened, Bob was stabbed in the stomach with a knife.

Chapter 20

Dill and I went outside when Atticus kicked us out of the trial. Dolphus Raymond, the town drunk, came up to us. Dolphus always had a drink in his hand at all times. Always in a brown paper bag. Dill was thirsty and Mr. Raymond took out of his brown bag a Coca Cola bottle. He's not a drunk, he just pretends to be because the town talks about him anyway so he just wanted to give them something to talk about.

When I got back inside the courthouse Atticus was coming to a conclusion and giving all the facts to the jury. He was saying how a man should not be considered a liar because he is black. Everyone should say what they think is right, but it's never like that. Tom was mainly convicted because of the color of his skin.

Chapter 17

Jem, Dill, and I snuck into Atticus's trial for Tom Robinson today. Tom was put on trial for raping and beating Mayella Ewell. During the trial Atticus had pointed out that Tom was right handed. The way she would have been hit was from a left handed man. Tom's left hand is shriveled from an accident he had at his last job. When Atticus had pointed that out I was sure that Tom never hit Mayella.

Mayella and Bob Ewell live in a trashy house. Bob does nothing to take care of the house. The family is not thought of highly in the neighborhood. Mayella does everything in the house cooks, cleans, and takes care of the children. Bob is a drunk and all he does is drink away their money away. Bob doesn't like Atticus at all because he thinks its a sin to be taking a black man's side over a white women's side in the case.

Chapter 12

Jem has been acting really strange the past week or so. We haven't been getting along at all. He always tries to act older than me. He's not even much older than me anyway. Atticus says he's growing up and maturing, but I don't see it. I think he's just trying to act like a know it all and show off.

Calpurnia had brought us along with her to her church today. It was a lot different than our church. When we walked in everyone was staring and whispering about us. They were really nice people though. Their church didn't have any books and everyone knew all the right songs to sing. It was kinda weird but interesting at the same time.

Chapter 8

This is the first time I've ever touched snow! It was beautiful. School was canceled so me and Jem decided to have some fun. We built a snow man with the dirt and covered it in snow because there wasn't enough. We made the snowman look like Mr. Avery but when we showed Aticus he wasn't too pleased. Aticus told us to change it so we put Mrs. Maudie's hat on him and her hedge clippers as hands.

That night Aticus woke us up told us to get dressed and brought us outside. I was in shock to see Mrs. Maudie's house in flames. All the neighbors tried to help get out the furniture but the house didn't make it. Mrs. Maudie wasn't upset about it though. She said she wanted a smaller house so she could have a huge garden. Aticus asked me where i got the blanket i had on. I don't even remember having one when i came outside. Jem said it was Boo Radley but he always tries to pull my leg. We told Aticus about the strange things that have been happening with Boo. He said just to keep to ourselves.

Chapter 4

Through out my school years I've only grown to hate it more. The same thing everyday was dreadful, but one day when i was walking home i saw a shiny tinfoil hanging out of the big oak tree on the Radley's property. I went to go see what it was of course and saw it was two pieces of chewing gum. When i went home and told Jem he was worried and told me to spit out the gum.

On the last day of school me and Jem were walking home and saw another thing in the tree. It was a little trinket box that wedding rings come in. Inside were two indian-head pennies. Jem said they were good luck so we kept them!

Chapter 3

There is this kid Walter Cunningham in my class. He's very poor. Walter decided to get me in trouble so I stuck his head in the dirt. Jem wasn't happy when he saw what I did. After i thought about what I did I felt really bad so I invited Walter to have dinner with us.

After i got home from school Aticus asked me to read with him. I just casually said yes and walked outside. He asked whats wrong so I told him that Miss Caroline didn't want me to read with him anymore and how i don't want to go back to school. He said if you go back to school we can still read together as long as I don't tell Miss Caroline.

Chapter 2

Our cousin Dill went back to Meridian today. He comes every summer to stay with us. I was really sad he had to leave, It felt like he just got here. I also started my first day of school today. I was so nervous, it was my first time every going to a school. Jem told me not to talk to him at school and I don't know why.

When I got to my class the teacher welcomed me to my class mates. She didn't come off as the nicest person. Her name was Miss Caroline. We were reading in class out loud and she asked me to read. I guess I was doing well because she blamed Aticus for teaching me how to read. At recess Jem came up to me in school and asked how I liked it so far. I really didn't enjoy my first day, in fact i hated it.

Chapter 1

This is Maycomb, Alabama. Where me, my father Aticus, and my brother Jem all live. Its a prettysmall, run down town. My father Aticus makes a living here as a lawyer. As you know the Great Depression is going on. We don't have a lot of money as it is.

This is Arthur Boo Radley's house. Boo is our neighbor. No one has seen him come out of his house since he was a teenage boy. He had gotten in trouble with the law as a teen so his father punished him by not letting him out of the house. His father is dead now but Boo still never comes out. He lives there with his older brother Nathan. We're trying to get Boo to come out so we could see what he looks like by playing games and messing around outside his house.
