Chapter 30

This morning the sheriff of Maycomb, Heck Tate came by our house. He said how he doesn't think it was Jem who stabbed Bob. Jem had a broken arm already and couldn't have had enough strength to stab a grown man. We all got to thinking about it and realized it was Boo Radley! Arthur Radley saved me and Jem. It was a secret though because Arthur gets really shy when he gets attention.

So mocking birds are sweet little creatures. They are so innocent and make people happy just by the sound of them. Arthur Radley I think reminds me of a mocking bird, so innocent but damaged. If anyone tried to hurt Arthur i think it would be a sin because he is so nice and a mockingbird.

Chapter 28

So me and Jem were just walking home from the school play. I even had a role. I was "Ham," all I said was "PORK!' My costume was really annoying though. I can't really walk, it makes me all clumsy and I can barely see anything. I guess it makes me kind of vulnerable.

On our way home last night we were attacked!! It was so scary. I don't remember that much because it all happened so quick and it was pitch black outside. All i remember hearing is Jem screaming and hearing a snap. Bob had broke Jem's arm. Then Bob started strangling me, I thought I was going to die.   All of a sudden he got thrown off of me. I'm not sure who saved me but I think it was Jem. After I could get up and see what happened, Bob was stabbed in the stomach with a knife.

Chapter 20

Dill and I went outside when Atticus kicked us out of the trial. Dolphus Raymond, the town drunk, came up to us. Dolphus always had a drink in his hand at all times. Always in a brown paper bag. Dill was thirsty and Mr. Raymond took out of his brown bag a Coca Cola bottle. He's not a drunk, he just pretends to be because the town talks about him anyway so he just wanted to give them something to talk about.

When I got back inside the courthouse Atticus was coming to a conclusion and giving all the facts to the jury. He was saying how a man should not be considered a liar because he is black. Everyone should say what they think is right, but it's never like that. Tom was mainly convicted because of the color of his skin.

Chapter 17

Jem, Dill, and I snuck into Atticus's trial for Tom Robinson today. Tom was put on trial for raping and beating Mayella Ewell. During the trial Atticus had pointed out that Tom was right handed. The way she would have been hit was from a left handed man. Tom's left hand is shriveled from an accident he had at his last job. When Atticus had pointed that out I was sure that Tom never hit Mayella.

Mayella and Bob Ewell live in a trashy house. Bob does nothing to take care of the house. The family is not thought of highly in the neighborhood. Mayella does everything in the house cooks, cleans, and takes care of the children. Bob is a drunk and all he does is drink away their money away. Bob doesn't like Atticus at all because he thinks its a sin to be taking a black man's side over a white women's side in the case.

Chapter 12

Jem has been acting really strange the past week or so. We haven't been getting along at all. He always tries to act older than me. He's not even much older than me anyway. Atticus says he's growing up and maturing, but I don't see it. I think he's just trying to act like a know it all and show off.

Calpurnia had brought us along with her to her church today. It was a lot different than our church. When we walked in everyone was staring and whispering about us. They were really nice people though. Their church didn't have any books and everyone knew all the right songs to sing. It was kinda weird but interesting at the same time.
